World Union Aims
World Union 2050
Dear all, this site humbly offers itself as a forum in which it is hoped to initiate a process of action that will enable individuals and groups to coordinate efforts to achieve a World Union by the year 2050. This blog also looks to initiate the process of using democratic influence to promote the following mission: To direct the governments of the world toward involvement in a world government. A number of following blogs will be used to introduce some of the proposed concepts involved and will be followed by a number of others addressing key issues within the above broad concept, and all will welcome comment. It is hoped that the bottom-up democratic approach that is enabled by the advent of advances in communications technologies will be very much at the core of this movement.
Democratic Steps
It is proposed that pressure be placed on candidates for all elections to deem themselves to be advocates of World Union 2050. It is hoped that this may, coupled with this aspired to popular support assist in allaying, in part, the democratic deficit apparent with regard to global representation. There are many organisations, whom we would invite to become involved here, who advocate for the logical progression to decision-making facilities of a global breadth being followed. However, these normally pursue the route of this progress by hoping politicians, in their current guise, will take up the baton. Politicians run on local and national issues in a huge majority of instances. They therefore do not stand on international issues, for them to do so a demand for to them to do so will need to be made apparent. If needs be, perhaps some of those who it is hoped will ally themselves to this process and purpose will stand themselves in elections to highlight this call. Currently what is sought is the intellectual input to assist in developing this basic concept.
Inclusion
It is recommended as a necessity for any movement with such long lasting aims that there be very few points on which preclusion of membership might result, and this being wary of the transitory and subjective nature of many ideals propounded. With that nod to the uncertainty in human declarations but also respecting the many commonalities of much of recorded philosophy what we will deem a prerequisite will be - only that - nothing is forced on any other. And so we aim that we shall build towards the stated goal of a World Union and all the virtues that we wish may be found within and espoused by that union by means of cooperation and not by means of coercion. To allow collective actions we will view that we will advocate inclusive democratic doctrine as guiding policy and treat representative persons and groups as capable of acting on behalf of those they represent within the stated laws of individual countries and international law. Any comments on the legislative nature of this process and how fears of unnecessary loss of sovereignty might be assuaged are most welcomed.
Motivation
Here it is hoped to address some of the motivations behind this call towards formatting a route towards greater cooperation and interdependence in the world. It would appear that in many circumstances repeating in various areas around the world there are representatives whom appeal to people's fears, just as there are those who appeal to hopes and aspirations, when seeking the empowerment from their approval. These fear-based motivations often times manifest themselves (often by highlighting the threat of and need for protection from, 'others') in ways that lead to further discord and conflict to add anew to many centuries of inter-national tragedy. It is incumbent on those that can - that all do, indeed, fight fear with hope, fight ignorance with knowledge and fight seeming-safe prejudices with understanding and cooperation. The ideals and the view that there is nothing as valuable as a human life and all human lives, and the person contained therein's ability to pursue their potential should be the cores of all representative decision-making, may seem to many hardwired with scepticism from years of hostility, as merely aspirational. However, it is felt here that it can certainly be presented as something that might be amenable to many when the benefits of mutual cooperation from a prosperity as well as peace centred perspective are made clear. The possibilities of forming a World Union are relatively apparent at a glance within the realm of a globalised world with many existing international and supra-national bodies. The ability to challenge many of the elements of world relations that add to many of the injustices in the world may also be relatively clear when we look at realities such as the seemingly inescapable poverty in certain areas, through the lens of a World Union. What is required is the presentation with clarity of the means required to assist this aspiration become a reality. If people request it by democratic, representative means through the various regions of the world and through the right fora, it will indeed move from initial aspiration to possibility to developing reality, and from the beginning of its path towards full existence the potential for improvement in many lives may exist.

I saw an incident reported in the news recently where russian planes flew over a u.s. air carrier. The report was unsure as to whether this was bravado, a political statement or some other act. It was dismissed as not serious. I thought about this and I felt that this is a ridiculous situation, that we live in a world that might in theory go to war, nuclear war, like this, over something that seems so whimsical perhaps because there is no forum no system to deal and discuss these things. I am not sure about your ideas of a World Union as it sounds too big for me as an objective, I feel that the infrastructure is there already with the United Nations, but that the countries of the world really need to communicate more and layout agreements to deal with and preempt all these types of events.
I certainly take your point regarding the current existence of the U.N. and other bodies, to an extent what is being sought through this forum is an opportunity for people without stated memberships or affiliations, or representative bodies, to be involved in the formation of, and motivation for this body; and so eliminate the many power-based compromises that would be inevitable for a direct United Nations or other institutional evolution. It goes without saying though that the U.N. and other such bodies would be essential to these developments, as would all representatives, and indeed almost all human interest groupings. The Union should be a forum for pursuits such as Art and Science, and Culture and Sport as well as Politics.
