World Union Aims

World Union 2050
Dear all, this site humbly offers itself as a forum in which it is hoped to initiate a process of action that will enable individuals and groups to coordinate efforts to achieve a World Union by the year 2050. This blog also looks to initiate the process of using democratic influence to promote the following mission: To direct the governments of the world toward involvement in a world government. A number of following blogs will be used to introduce some of the proposed concepts involved and will be followed by a number of others addressing key issues within the above broad concept, and all will welcome comment. It is hoped that the bottom-up democratic approach that is enabled by the advent of advances in communications technologies will be very much at the core of this movement.

Democratic Steps
It is proposed that pressure be placed on candidates for all elections to deem themselves to be advocates of World Union 2050. It is hoped that this may, coupled with this aspired to popular support assist in allaying, in part, the democratic deficit apparent with regard to global representation. There are many organisations, whom we would invite to become involved here, who advocate for the logical progression to decision-making facilities of a global breadth being followed. However, these normally pursue the route of this progress by hoping politicians, in their current guise, will take up the baton. Politicians run on local and national issues in a huge majority of instances. They therefore do not stand on international issues, for them to do so a demand for to them to do so will need to be made apparent. If needs be, perhaps some of those who it is hoped will ally themselves to this process and purpose will stand themselves in elections to highlight this call. Currently what is sought is the intellectual input to assist in developing this basic concept.

Inclusion
It is recommended as a necessity for any movement with such long lasting aims that there be very few points on which preclusion of membership might result, and this being wary of the transitory and subjective nature of many ideals propounded. With that nod to the uncertainty in human declarations but also respecting the many commonalities of much of recorded philosophy what we will deem a prerequisite will be - only that - nothing is forced on any other. And so we aim that we shall build towards the stated goal of a World Union and all the virtues that we wish may be found within and espoused by that union by means of cooperation and not by means of coercion. To allow collective actions we will view that we will advocate inclusive democratic doctrine as guiding policy and treat representative persons and groups as capable of acting on behalf of those they represent within the stated laws of individual countries and international law. Any comments on the legislative nature of this process and how fears of unnecessary loss of sovereignty might be assuaged are most welcomed.

Motivation
Here it is hoped to address some of the motivations behind this call towards formatting a route towards greater cooperation and interdependence in the world. It would appear that in many circumstances repeating in various areas around the world there are representatives whom appeal to people's fears, just as there are those who appeal to hopes and aspirations, when seeking the empowerment from their approval. These fear-based motivations often times manifest themselves (often by highlighting the threat of and need for protection from, 'others') in ways that lead to further discord and conflict to add anew to many centuries of inter-national tragedy. It is incumbent on those that can - that all do, indeed, fight fear with hope, fight ignorance with knowledge and fight seeming-safe prejudices with understanding and cooperation. The ideals and the view that there is nothing as valuable as a human life and all human lives, and the person contained therein's ability to pursue their potential should be the cores of all representative decision-making, may seem to many hardwired with scepticism from years of hostility, as merely aspirational. However, it is felt here that it can certainly be presented as something that might be amenable to many when the benefits of mutual cooperation from a prosperity as well as peace centred perspective are made clear. The possibilities of forming a World Union are relatively apparent at a glance within the realm of a globalised world with many existing international and supra-national bodies. The ability to challenge many of the elements of world relations that add to many of the injustices in the world may also be relatively clear when we look at realities such as the seemingly inescapable poverty in certain areas, through the lens of a World Union. What is required is the presentation with clarity of the means required to assist this aspiration become a reality. If people request it by democratic, representative means through the various regions of the world and through the right fora, it will indeed move from initial aspiration to possibility to developing reality, and from the beginning of its path towards full existence the potential for improvement in many lives may exist.

Middle East

The strife in the middle east as of writing 11/01/2009 has been exercising many minds and inviting many opinions, in reaction to the human tragedies that are unfolding and also in many cases in search of a solution or a guilty party to explain a way out of this most intractable situation. There is a vast amount of human history involved in this particular geopolitical difficulty. It is a history that must, of course, be respected, but, perhaps, not completely defered to, as an inescapable explanation of an inability to resolve this situation satisfactorily from the perspective of the international community.
As local and nationally orientated constructs our societies have mostly moved beyond original rights and wrongs in conflicts as excusing or justifying mistreatments, however as an international community this still seems an aspiration. In the local or national environment there are laws and accepted norms of behaviour towards others which if violated the relevant representative bodies act in defence of the offended parties.
Again, with the existence of many international bodies and documents that various nations have signed up to, much of the armoury to enforce an environment condusive to a peaceful and prosperous international community, is in place.
Clearly though, many states operate within these frameworks only when it is seen as self-serving, states do not take long-term commitments to internationalism seriously and as such operate in the more short-term domestic government cycles.
People are more and more aware of the rights and wrongs of all wars and conflicts to the individual human citizens with increasing coverage and communication, and as such there is a willingness to not only voice their dissatisfaction in the streets, but to find a constitutional and democratic voice.
This then is where the movement of worldunion2050 can assist. By running candidates in national and regional elections and highlighting the need to augment our current interantional laws and insitutions with governmental accountability to their electorate with regards to their international behaviour.
Add your voice to an international movement to speak up against the unnecessary human hurt

United Step

Yesterday, the fourth of November 2008, the people of the United States of America, through their electoral process, choose a man of African American descent, a man whose father was born in and grew up in the African country of Kenya, for the first time as their President. Commentators throughout much of the world have pointed to the unifying significance of this election both within the United Stated and the world at large. This unification and multi-lateral international approach was, indeed, a key message of the successfuls candidates campaign.

Another highlighted aspect of the successful campaign was the increased involvement at individual level in support for the candidiates through the medium of the Internet.
These are steps that highlight the potential for vested interests to be further removed from positions where abuse of influence can occur through the increased involvement and improved level of information available to individuals around the globe via this medium and others. We hope that this style of movement can further pressurise politicians to extending the levels of their cooperation and understanding.

First steps

The initial view would be for all who can and are willing to would subscribe to and push for the aspired union's formation. Initially perhaps a building towards a first formal activity in 2010 may begin and your ideas as to how to promote and engage people in this initial promotion are most welcomed, indeed, also any ideas regarding that initial activity, and the planning probably contained therein to give a timetable, perhaps of annual and quinquennial milestones over the coming decades are also very welcome here.

Aims

Please reply to this if you have any comments on any issues mentioned in four articles that form the World Union Aims on home page

Matrix

Economically within a union or as we progress towards a union, how should we integrate existing trade agreements and relationships. Might we retain many of the elements of the key regional agreements and have collaboration between these blocks and a matrix allowing sovereign states within the existing blocks to seek out partners in other areas, as well as planned universality implemented in certain favourable areas of trade. How might the economic building blocks of this union be layed. Would be keen to hear from all interested here including economists.
